The Story Behind The Actors Studio
The Actors Studio was set up in April of 1989 by husband and wife team Joe Hasham and Dato’ Faridah Merican with the following objectives: staging meaningful theatre, nurturing Performing Arts in the young, providing training in acting, music, dance, creative movement, creative writing, singing and production. It was a constant struggle for survival, but somehow Faridah and Joe managed. Then, on June 10th, 2003, while Faridah & Joe were handling an important corporate event at The Actors Studio Bangsar, floods inundated
Faridah has never been one to say die. She has always believed that the closing of one door heralds the opening of another.
In 2005, The Actors Studio joined hands with YTL and Penyayang and The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre was born.
Towards the end of 2008, news came that the popular Bangsar theatre had to be closed down. After two weeks of Gala Farewell performances, The Actors Studio @ BSC closed its doors on 28 February. In October the same year, The Actors Studio moved into its spanking new 250-seater theatre on the rooftop of Lot 10 Shopping Centre.
