Rashomon (Theatre / 12th – 14th July)

From the Academy Award-winning film by Akira Kurosawa comes an equally acclaimed stage production. Declared “an artistic triumph” by Kakiseni, The Actors Studio’s RASHOMON enjoyed three successful stagings and swept four BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.

The coming together of three visionaries, each considered to be the best in their field, promises to bring this masterpiece to new dramatic heights. Director Joe Hasham OAM, Music Director Bernard Goh of HANDS Percussion and Production Designer Paul Loosley weave a gripping story of lust, greed and honesty.

In this adaptation, a shocking crime takes place. A husband murdered, his wife raped. A yakuza steps forward to claim responsibility. The witnesses are called to testify. The only problem is that each testimony contradicts the other. What really happened?

Against the backdrop of modern-day Osaka where seedy side streets and shady characters are aplenty, the search for the truth is not as simple as asking “Did you commit the crime?”

The Actors Studio’s 2013 production of RASHOMON is brought to you by JTI Malaysia in collaboration with klpac and HANDS Percussion.
